Buccaneer CERT Team Holds Disaster Drill

The Bucaneer CERT team planned, prepared, and hosted a disaster training drill for neighboring North Fort Myers CERT teams.  The drill took place at the Buccaneer Recreation Hall on Saturday, April 2, 2005.   Fire fighters from the North Fort Myers Fire District also participated in the drill.  Food for the participants was provided by the Salvation Army of Lee County.

Leaders Review Disaster Drill Details

North Fort Myers Fire District Public Education Officer Marie Hagan, CERT team leader Jeanne Basak, and assistant team leader Nancy Werkman review the day's disaster activities before deciding to move the drill indoors because of bad weather.  

Victims take their places.

Disaster victim at right suffered electrical shock when she came into contact with a live electrical wire.  Other injuries suffered by victims ranged from broken bones, cuts, burns, and head injuries, to chest pains and hysteria.

Visiting CERT rescue teams did not know in advance what they would find at the simulated tornado disaster scene.

Salvation Army Helps

Weary CERT rescuers gather next to the Lee County Salvation Army canteen.  The Salvation Army provided food and drinks for all who participated in the disaster drill.
